About Deep Dive Topics
Dive deeper into evidence-based practices that will help you continue to build your skills and improve your online course. Many resources and useful templates are provided. Also included are activities that will help you design and facilitate your own online course.
Use the “Deep Dive Topics” menu above to view and select the various topic choices. The Deep Dive Topics align with and engage you further in the Quick-Start Topics. Note: these topics are free for UW-Madison, and you will be asked to login with your NetID.
The first three topics provide a valuable foundation and overview of the online environment and teaching and learning. These topics include:
The next five topics provide best practices and research-based strategies to plan an online course using the Quality Matters standards (To access all of Quality Matters resources, including the rubric and course review tools, UW-Madison employees can create a Quality Matters account.)

The next list of deep dive topics are micro-courses. Read “About Micro-Courses” to learn how these courses can help with specific skills and competencies.
The deep dive topics were developed for the TeachOnline@UW Learning Community, which was funded by an Educational Innovation grant. The content was developed in partnership with Distance Education Professional Development and a cross-campus committee with a mission to provide faculty and instructional staff support to develop and teach online courses. Committee members include instructional staff from the Division of Continuing Studies, the Division of Information Technology Academic Technology, Engineering Professional Development, L&S Learning Support Services, and UW-Madison Libraries.
